Indonesia’s Islamic books have potential to be sold internationally

  • The Director-General of Culture at the Ministry of Education and Culture, Hilmar Farid, stated that Indonesia has the opportunity to market books on Islamic thoughts in the international market through a number of world book exhibitions.
  • “So far, people have seen Islam as what was portrayed by media, and it is perceived as a representation of Islam, whereas in Indonesia, the application of Islam is through thoughts, practices, and cultures,” Farid said here on Wednesday.
  • According to Farid, this issue is the main focus that should be raised at the international book exhibition. “Questions about Islam in global politics will be answered through books,” he explained.
  • Indonesia will promote 300 titles at the London Book Fair (LBF) 2019, which will be held at the London Olympia exhibition building from April 10 to 12.
  • In addition to presenting selected books, Indonesia will also show Indonesian films, which are inspired from books under the curation of a writer, director, and film producer, Sekar Ayu Asmara.
